Continuing with the series on dividends of democracy,i go into the most hampering issue the power sector.Nigeria generates high megawatts of power from its dams most especially the Kainji dam. This enables the supply of power to neighbouring countries like Ghana,Chad,Niger and so on.
While we are supplying power to these countries we cannot boast of half a day of steady light whereas a country like Ghana whom we supply power has celebrated 1year of steady light and are still counting. When we talk about the power sector we include water, infrastracture e.t.c because without power, these amenities cannot be productive. This can also lead to economic stagnantism.
What am i trying to say?I do not want to condemn any government but stress my point.Let us follow the example of Ethiopia who now generate power to about 5 neighbouring countries in East Africa(if am correct) but are counter productive because of their consistent power circulation around the country. Now the government has increased power generation to 4000mwts,let it be circulated round the country and let the citizens feel this important dividend of democracy.
